My goal as a fitness professional is to create an environment where a client can discover and nourish enthusiasm for movement as well as appreciate and be curious about the unique abilities their own body possesses.

My clients range in age from 30-92 and many come to see me in order to manage pain or recover from a specific injury. I have had clients with scoliosis, neuropathy, arthritis, herniated discs, bursitis, and other chronic pain and issues that are interfering with their optimal quality of life. I also have clients who are looking to build strength, train for athletic performance, lose weight, or to just move and feel good.

Pilates

Joseph Pilates developed what was originally called Contrology in the 20th century. Later renamed to reflect its creator, Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that strengthens muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. It is a whole-body integrated approach to movement that also focuses on the deep core muscles that are often overlooked in other forms of exercise. I became mat and apparatus certified through Bent Pilates, Inc. in NYC in 2010 where I received training in the Kane School of Core Integration method.

I am certified in Pre- and Post-natal Pilates mat, and I have trained with Mariska Breland of the Neuro Studio which specializes in Pilates for Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Yoga

I obtained by 500-hr teaching certification under the direction of Yogiraj Alan Finger at ISHTA Yoga in NYC 2014. I studied Hatha yoga, which combines physical poses (asanas) and breath work (pranayama) to alternately challenge and soothe the body and mind. I encourage modifications in my classes in order to make this practice accessible for all bodies and skill levels.

I have also received training in Trauma-sensitive yoga and have experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in both NYC and Western North Carolina. These classes provide a safe and encouraging environment that allows participants to re-connect with their bodies and engage more fully with their lives.

Personal Training

As a personal trainer, I have been trained to create and implement safe and effective exercise programs that help my clients reach their exercise and wellness goals. Working with me increases accountability, provides education on exercise science and human physiology, helps you to set attainable and realistic goals, and promotes healthy lifestyle changes overall.

I have been certified by the American Council on Exercise since 2018 and also have training in functional movement science, self-mayofascial release, TRX suspension training, senior fitness, & pain management.
